Muno Bopping Til He Drops

At school, there is one song in particular that Cody loves to dance to, Bop Until You Drop. Being in a Muno costume didn't stop him from dancing! Although, he is a bit distracted by all the costumes. He was pretty unsure about the Elmo costume. He couldn't stop staring at the Elmo head.

The reason the video is fuzzy is because DJ and I were watching from the one-way mirror in the observation room.

Crazy Hat Day

Today was Crazy Hat Day at DJ's school.

When he found out about Crazy Hat Day yesterday, the first hat he thought of was his Pirates of the Caribbean cowboy hat. BUT he did not want to wear it the right way because he says it had to be "crazy" looking. Instead, he wore it sideways. He's such a funny boy! :)

Cody's Halloween Parade

Since Cody doesn't have school on Fridays, his class had their Halloween Parade today. He was excited to wear his Muno costume.

You will notice that he is not wearing the original Muno head. Because he was afraid of the head part, I modified his costume so that it was something he would wear.

Muno at work doing puzzles. Like DJ, he is a natural at puzzles! He can look at a puzzle and know exactly where the piece goes! That's our boy!!!!

After free play and book time, it was time to go trick o treatin'!!! Cody wasn't sure what to think of it. He doesn't even like candy. DJ sure was excited, though, since most of the treats were his favorite, M&Ms.

In the hall, Cody found a ride-on car and decided that he would ride that instead of walk during their parade/trick-o-treatin'.

Happy Halloween!!!!

This weekend, I attempted to take pictures of the boys in their Halloween Costumes. I swear, with all the kids I have taken pictures of so far, mine are definitely my hardest subjects!

This year, DJ decided that he wanted to be something "scary" and not "cute" for Halloween. He decided on a vampire.

(WARNING: LOTS of pictures)

DJ did NOT want his picture taken at all.

Isn't he a cute, oops, I mean SCARY vampire? He didn't want to smile for me, but I think it worked with the costume! :)

Here is the full view of my Vampire. He was trying to be mad at me, but he couldn't help but break into a smile.

Doesn't this face say it all????

What's a Vampire costume without a set of fangs?

Maybe the fangs are a little big.

His scariest Vampire impression!

Cody noticed that DJ was getting his pictures taken so he decided to strike a pose.

As mentioned in a previous post, Cody is a HUGE Yo Gabba Gabba fan! So this year, we decided that he would be cute as one of the YGG monsters.

Unfortunately, they don't sell costumes. SO...mommy got to work and sewed one for him.

Here is a picture of the Muno head with 2 of the kids' Muno toys.

And here is our very own Muno Cody! Isn't he a cutie? He hated the head so he's NOT happy!

It didn't take very long before he started ripping the head off. Poor Muno!

OH SO MAD!

Just like DJ's picture...his face says everything!

Since Cody wouldn't wear the head, I decided that SOMEONE had to!

Videos

I recently bought a new Flip video camera and LOVE IT! Here are a few videos from last week.

Cody is a HUGE Yo Gabba Gabba fan. He watches the show at least 5-10 times a day. He even has the episodes memorized. Here he is reenacting one of the episodes.

Cody has outgrown his zebra, but he still loves it. One of these days he is going to buck himself right off of it!

At 2.5 years old, Cody is just now starting to throw 2 yr old tantrums. Before, his tantrums were nice, quiet, lay-on-the-floor-and-pout tantrums. Recently, he started to become more vocal. Here he is protesting because he wanted to see himself on the video camera screen.

Here is DJ's reenactment of Cody's tantrum. :)

Hopefully, I will get more videos of DJ. He tends to hide when he sees the camera! :)

Oh and can you guess what all Cody's videos have in common???? (answer below)

He's not wearing any pants!!!! :)

Fire Prevention Week - A Trip to the Firehouse

For Fire Prevention Week, the local firehouses had an open house for kids to check out the fire house and learn about fire prevention.

DJ has always LOVED firetrucks so we figured it would be a fun field trip for him.

Here he is in the fire engine. He's the half head in the passenger seat. :)

The fire station just received this new Ladder Truck. DJ's eyes lit up when he saw the ladder. I think he was trying to figure out how he could get up there.

DJ really liked this vintage fire truck.

Grandparents Day

A couple of weeks ago, DJ's school had Grandparents Day. Fortunately, Mama already had the day off so she joined DJ for the day.

DJ was very excited about Mama coming to Grandparents Day. He wanted Papa to come, too, but he had to work.

Here they are on the way to the cafeteria for lunch.

After stopping by the cafeteria to grab a nutritious lunch of nachos and cheeseburgers, they headed to DJ's class to enjoy their meal and spend the rest of the school day.

After lunch was time on the carpet. The kids get to take turns practicing their reading and finish their show and tell.
DJ's teacher wanted the kids to show their skills to their grandparents, so DJ had a chance to get up there and show Mama his reading skills.

It's amazing that after only 2.5 months in school, he is reading!!!! He is doing great with the 1-4 letter words and is trying to read the bigger ones. He LOVES reading and his teacher called him the "King of the Reading Log" at school because he tries to bring a reading log (of 10 books read) each week. They only need to submit one a month, but so far, I think DJ is up to 10 for the school year.
We are so glad he is enthusiastic about learning! I hope he keeps it up!!!
And here's a picture of the supportive baby brother. :)

What's new this week?

Short and sweet, here is what's new with the Slape Family this week:

  1. Cody started the "regular" 2 year old preschool class on Monday and did GREAT!
  2. DJ read a book 90% by himself!!!!!!!
  3. Cody has a double ear infection - poor baby
  4. Michelle sprained her neck by carrying kids (yup, you read that right...I have an ugly white neck brace to prove it)
  5. Doyle is on travel in Hawaii - don't feel sorry for him! :)
  6. I am going to the NKOTB concert tomorrow night!!!! Even if I have to hide my neck brace under a scarf!

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month

This month is Down Syndrome awareness month. Have you hugged a Down Syndrome kid today? If not, I'll give Cody a hug for you! :)

Before we had Cody, we never knew anything about Down Syndrome. When we went to school, they were always in the Special Education class and never mainstreamed with "normal" kids like they are today.

We usually forget that Cody has DS since he is a smart little boy. Before he was born, we were worried about how he would function, learn, socialize, etc. Now, he makes us so proud to be his parents! He is so full of love and has hugs and kisses for friends, families and strangers alike! His fan-base gets bigger and bigger with each day!!!

This picture is a couple months old, but I never remembered to post it. Cody has a thing for shoes and tries EVERYONE's shoes on. The bigger, the better.
